It is the ultimate question: Who is God? It is human nature to want to believe in
a God. We want to think that we live on in spirit when our physical body dies. We
want to believe that our relatives are still near us when they have died, and that
we will eventually see them again. Believing in a God, whether it be Jesus, Buddha,
or a man with a beard sat on a cloud, lets us make a little sense out of the chaos
in the world around us, and helps to explain things that science can’t, such as consciousness.
If you feel in your heart that there is a God, then just believe in him and turn
to him when you need to for help, support or to give thanks. You can talk to God
anywhere, it doesn’t have to be in a church. Most people put their hands together
and close their eyes to pray. You may feel closer to God in times of need, and feel
that if you reach out to him / her, that you will get the comfort and support you
need. It has been proven that ill people who are prayed for do actually recover faster
than those who aren’t prayed for, although this of course could be psycho-schematic
on the part of the ill person.
Some people have a ‘revelation’ and a sudden love for God, maybe after a big event
in their life or when wanting to change their lives after having done bad things,
(such as born again Christians). If you expect this though or are waiting for it
to happen, it may not. You might just find that you have blind faith, and know in
your heart there is a God, or you may plod on through life never really knowing,
or even really caring.
You are probably reading this page after having searched on the internet for some
answers to the question Who is God? You are obviously intrigued by the subject. I
hope you can explore this website and see if you find some answers. Check out the

Some might say, well, just open your eyes! Look around you. There is proof of a God
everywhere, in the complexity of the human brain, in the beauty of a tree. Creationists
would say that the world around us, including the micro-organic world that we can’t
see, is proof that something created it. It is too complex to have happened on its
own. Others might argue that what we see around us is proof that God doesn’t exist.
How could a God allow terrible and unfair things to happen? There are answers to
these questions in all the religions; but how do you know which religion you are?
If you were bought up by parents who weren’t religious, how do you know if you are
Christian, Catholic, Jewish, or maybe some other religion that you haven’t even heard
of? So many questions! I am going to try and help you find your own answers to them.
Remember, no-one really knows the truth, we only have our beliefs, or faith. Some
people are willing to die for their faith, or start wars because of it, their beliefs
are that strong. Believing in God helps us through difficult times in our lives,
such as bereavement. It can also bring such joy to people, make someone a better
person, and give them a sense of meaning.
It helps to belong to a religious group, where you can go to a church and worship
God with like-minded people, but is it really necessary to belong to a particular
religion? A lot op people honestly don’t know which religion they are. When asked,
they might just say ‘Christian’, although they never go to church and don’t read
the bible.
It is OK just to simply ‘believe in God’ and not worship him through someone else
such as Jesus. It is OK not to have all the answers. Sometimes it is better not to
over-analyse things, but just to accept that we will never really know the truth
until we die or God comes to tell us who he is and the meaning of life!
But how do we know that God isn’t just a figment of our imagination, or something
invented by us to make us feel better. Is there any proof that God exists?
